Why A&M
While it is true, most public universities in Texas offer teacher certification, there is a difference when it comes to the value of your degree. Texas A&M provides one of the best teacher education programs found in the nation.
Texas A&M is one of the few teacher preparation programs to offer an exclusively field-based teacher education program. This means our students are getting into classrooms to work with students, teachers, and parents as early as their freshman year in our program. Due to our field-based program, Aggie teachers are better prepared for the situations they face as professional educators. The retention rate for an Aggie teacher is much higher than the national average. In fact, 83% of Aggie teachers are still teaching five years after graduation. The national average retention rate for teachers after five years is below 50%. The College of Education & Human Development at Texas A&M is also one of the few teacher preparation programs to consistently produce teachers certified in the high-need teaching fields over the past five years.

Supporting our Students
The College of Education & Human Development opened its Marilyn Kent Byrne Student Success Center in the spring of 2008 to enhance and promote academic success for education majors at Texas A&M University. The center measures student success in terms of academic performance, retention through graduation and career placement. Primarily, the center facilitates students' exposure and access to academic, career, learning support and transition services and campus life opportunities. To further promote student success, the center collaborates with key stakeholders, including students, faculty, advisors, student affairs professionals and academic departments.
